On Thursday, May 19, Neighborhood House celebrated the completion of the Ray & Tye Noorda Neighborhood House campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Neighborhood House board of trustees and leadership will welcome government officials, community dignitaries, and prominent philanthropists to commemorate the finalized construction of the 5.5 acres campus serving children and adults with quality, affordable day care and support services. The celebration included speeches, tours, lunch, and interview opportunities with participants and staff, as well as Keynote Speaker Gail Miller. Also attending were Representative Sandra Hollins, Mayor of Salt Lake County Jenny Wilson, Chair of the Board of Trustees Marilyn Macallair, Co-chairs of Capital Campaign Elaine Ellis and Helen Cardon, and Executive Director Jennifer Nuttall.
The new building brings both children and adult clients together under one roof, which greatly enhances the intergenerational activities that already make Neighborhood House a unique and trusted source of care. In addition to the Cleone Peterson Eccles Children’s Center (inaugurated in August of 2019), and the new Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Foundation Adult Center, the new campus includes outstanding outdoor spaces, such as the Herm and Lauri Franks Intergenerational Sensory Garden, the JB and Hillary Taylor Greenhouse, the ALSAM Foundation Discovery Playground and Adventure Park, and the Emma Eccles Jones Foundation Learning Playgrounds. These high-quality outdoor spaces currently serve over 300 children and 70 aging and disabled adults, by providing learning opportunities and a range of experiences supporting health and wellness.
“This campus allows Neighborhood House to serve more families in the community with enhanced programs, offering children and adults joint gardening activities, in greenhouse and adjacent therapeutic garden space, to strengthen social interaction between age groups, promote environmental stewardship, and support nutritional education.” – Executive Director Jennifer Nuttall
