The Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation commits to a generous $5 million contribution to the Utah Housing Preservation Fund (UHPF) this summer. Donations like this, especially during this time of economic challenges, play a critical role in protecting the most vulnerable Utahns during the current affordable housing crisis. This new investment will be used for finding and renovating housing for low-income to moderate-income families in Utah.
“We are grateful for our partnership with the Utah Housing Preservation Fund and trust these funds will increase access to affordable housing for underserved Utahns,” said Gail Miller, chair of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation. “We look forward to seeing the housing advancements in our communities that result from this program. Together we can and must build a community where everyone is welcomed, valued and treated with dignity.”
Research by the National Housing Preservation Database indicates that over the next five years, Utah will lose 6,600-plus units of affordable housing. Currently, Utah is facing a housing gap of over 40,000 households. UHPF focuses on purchasing, remodeling and rent-stabilizing Utah’s existing affordable housing to preserve affordable housing for low- to moderate-income Utahns. UHPF estimates it can preserve nearly 100 affordable units across Utah with the Miller Family Foundation donation.
“We so appreciate the generosity that the Miller family and the Larry H. Miller Company have shown toward the Housing Preservation Fund,” says Craig DeMordaunt, Board Chair at the Utah Non-profit Housing Corporation. “Gail Miller and the Miller family care deeply about Utah and its people and are making sure Utahns have a place to call home.”
In an effort to ensure rental housing remains affordable for low- to moderate-income Utahns, the UHPF relies on the generous contributions of investors and donors. Along with the Miller Family Foundation, other investors include Clark and Christine Ivory Foundation, The State of Utah, Utah Non-Profit Housing Corp, Intermountain Healthcare, Zions Bank, and Worker’s Compensation Fund. Organizations or individuals interested in supporting this cause can find more information at UHPF.org.

About the Utah Housing Preservation Fund
The Utah Housing Preservation Fund aims to preserve the loss of Utah’s existing affordable housing through the purchasing, remodeling, and the rent-stabilizing of housing units. This is accomplished through partnerships with municipalities, non-profits, philanthropists, and community banks. The Fund, managed through the Utah Nonprofit Housing Corporation, was introduced in March 2020 with a goal to preserve thousands of safe and affordable rental units and increase health outcomes for low- and moderate-income Utahns.
