On its 25th Anniversary, Davis Technical College Foundation honored organizations for their commitment to changing students’ lives at its annual Life-Changer Luncheon today, at Davis Technical College (Davis Tech).
The five honorees are as follows:
• Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation, Haven J. Barlow Legacy Award
• Renishaw, Industry Partner Award
• Snow College, Education Partner Award
• Kaysville City, Community Advocate Award
• Division of Facilities Construction and Management, President’s Award
During the event, Davis Technical College Foundation celebrated 25 years of supporting students and recognized the honorees for their contributions to Davis Tech and dedication to education in Utah. Also, students shared stories of how their lives were changed by their hands-on experiences.
“This education is a turning point and the beginning of my journey in the medical field. It’s more than a job or certification. I am well on my way to becoming a Paramedic or RN, which will allow me to come to the aid of people in need,” said Dominick Amarel, the Davis Tech Health Professions Student of the Year.
“This scholarship has played a crucial role in transforming my life. It sent the powerful message that someone believes in me,” said Amarel. “Never underestimate the power of education and the support of a caring community. You have given me and countless others a bright future, and I am grateful for that.”
In the 2023-24 school year, Davis Tech awarded 381 awards to students totaling $272,934 from funds raised by the foundation.
“Over the last 25 years, Davis Technical College Foundation, and its many donors, have contributed over $3 million in scholarships to help students achieve their education goals and secure successful careers,” said Foundation Director Lindsey Rees. “We receive so many letters from students who are thankful for the support and couldn’t have gone to college without a scholarship. We are grateful to all the contributors throughout the years and the many companies honored today. They are the heart and soul of our community, and we couldn’t do it without them.”
“We are honored to receive the Haven J. Barlow Legacy Award in recognition of our shared commitment to education and community service,” said Don Stirling, executive director of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation. “As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Davis Technical College Foundation, we remain dedicated to supporting the next generation of learners and leaders, continuing the legacy of giving that Haven J. Barlow championed.”
The Davis Technical College Foundation has been a vital force in supporting technical education through scholarships, equipment, and financial resources. Since 1999, the Foundation has awarded over 5,000 scholarships totaling over $3 million, with an additional $1 million in in-kind donations from industry partners. This ensures students have access to cutting-edge tools and training. Funds raised by the Foundation have also supported the construction of three key campus buildings, further enhancing the learning environment.
In 2022, the Foundation expanded its mission by opening the Davis Tech Center for Assistance, Resources, and Educational Success (CARES), providing essential non-academic support to students. As we look toward the future, the Foundation remains committed to removing barriers and creating opportunities for Davis Tech students, thanks to the continued generosity of its supporters.
