Utah Jazz to Celebrate International Women’s Day

SALT LAKE CITY (March 6, 2020) – The Utah Jazz will commemorate International Women’s Day at the Jazz vs. Toronto game on Monday, March 9 with custom shooting shirts worn by Jazz players, a halftime routine by the Jazz Dancers alongside high school performers, recognition of girls who participate in Junior Jazz, and groups empowering young women hosted by Jazz players Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.

Players will wear special shooting shirts with the J-Note logo and “International Women’s Day” inscribed on the front in Jazz colors.

In addition, girls who are members of Junior Jazz will stand with Jazz and Raptors players on-court during the National Anthem, where the Color Guard will be comprised of members of the Girl Scouts. Junior Jazz is the largest and longest running youth basketball league in the NBA.

Jazz center Rudy Gobert will host a group from Girls on the Run, a program that empowers young girls by teaching life skills and lessons through running, at the game on March 9. Gobert will contribute $1,000 for every one of his blocked shots that evening to Girls on the Run and will meet with them postgame. The Jazz big man and his Rudy’s Kids Foundation have turned his blocks into more than $50,000 in donations to nonprofit agencies in Salt Lake City and around the country.

In partnership with adidas, Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell will also host a group of women at the game on March 9. Fourteen women will receive signed Donovan Mitchell adidas D.O.N. Issue #1 International Women’s Day shoes, and they will sit courtside to watch the Jazz and Raptors during pregame warmups.

At halftime, the Zyia Active Jazz Dancers will perform a special halftime routine on-court alongside a group of high school dancers. Throughout January during National Mentoring Month, members of the Jazz Dancers visited 350 students from 14 high school dance programs to host a series of clinics and share their three pillars of personal growth, physical fitness and community service.

The Jazz Dancers asked the youth to write an essay reflecting on their time spent together and rewarded one student from each program with the opportunity to perform with the team at halftime on March 9. Students will represent dance companies and drill teams from Cyprus High School, Farmington High School, Herriman High School, Syracuse High School, West Jordan High School and more.

The player ticket donation program, where Jazz players Mike Conley, Rudy Gobert, Joe Ingles and Donovan Mitchell provide tickets for Jazz games, will benefit girls from Junior Jazz, Girls on the Run and ZGiRLS at the game on March 9.
