The Larry H. Miller Group of Companies is proud to support people of all abilities, and we’re celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) this October. Please join us in learning more about this commemoration and identifying ways that you can support people of all abilities.
This year marks the 76th anniversary of NDEAM, the purpose of which is to celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities while educating about disability employment issues.
The U.S. Department of Labor has put together some ideas of how we can learn together as an organization:
- Participate in Disability Mentoring Day
- Educate About Disability History
- Share the award-winning “I Can” PSA with friends and family

“The contributions [of people with disabilities in particular] have historically been vital to our nation’s success, and are more important today than ever. We must build an economy that fully includes the talent and drive of those with disabilities.”
U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh
Our inclusive portfolio of companies offers access and opportunities to all, and we appreciate all of our team members who contribute so much. We value all perspectives from people of all abilities and appreciate what they do throughout our companies and across our communities.
Awareness in Action
The goal of Larry H. Miller Megaplex Theatres is to provide the ultimate entertainment experience for every guest for every visit. That lofty standard requires particular attention to adaptive services so that every guest has the opportunity to enjoy their favorite film in the best environment possible. Megaplex is committed to the mission, vision, and values of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies, so our quest to be a leader in the community and within the exhibition industry is never-ending. Those values apply to both Megaplex as a business and as an employer. Our extraordinary guest service team is the best in the industry, and our strength comes from our diversity and adaptability.
Megaplex is committed to hiring the most qualified individuals who enjoy helping others celebrate the magic of movies. We happily make accommodations for employees with different abilities, especially since those adjustments frequently help us better serve guests who may need similar accommodations.
More than 20 years ago, the Miller family incorporated industry-leading adaptive services into the construction of the Megaplex Theatres at Jordan Commons. That commitment to adaptive innovation has continued with every Megaplex location since. The current list of adaptive services include:
- Mobility access including dedicated parking, ramps, elevators, automatic doors, courtesy wheelchairs, and other guest services
- Transfer seats and wheelchair access to offer guests premium movie viewing opportunities
- Audio/Hearing services including assisted listening via T-coil induction loop technology that communicates directly into the latest generation of hearing aids or via personal earbuds
- Open Caption screenings that project dialog and scene descriptors directly onto the silver screen
- Closed Caption provides text versions of the spoken words that accompany movies
- Descriptive Audio services to support the blind or visually impaired, which is similar in tone to a “book on tape” to describe the action appearing on the screen
- Service Animal accommodation for those with vision, mobility, or other needs
- Sensory Friendly Screenings for guests on the Autism spectrum: the volume is lowered, and the auditorium lights remain on to allow guests to more easily process the big-screen experience
- Quiet rooms and spaces for families needing a place to help calm an upset child
Megaplex Theatres continues to search for new and better ways to serve every guest and employ those individuals with a love of movies.
