Gail Miller had to drop out of college to work full-time to support her family after her father suffered a debilitating stroke. Larry H. Miller was a self-professed poor student, yet he scored in the 99 percentile on the college entrance exam for the University of Utah. “One of the most important objectives of our organization is to improve the quality of people’s lives, both our employees and customers. I believe education is one of the best ways we can achieve this goal.” These were the words Larry Miller used in 1996 to introduce a new program to the employees of his company – the Larry H. Miller Education Foundation. The program’s primary purpose is to provide educational assistance to dependent children of full-time employees of the Larry H. Miller Company.
Inspired by Larry and Gail’s love of education, the Larry H. Miller Education Foundation has helped more than 4,500 students further their education at 180 different universities, colleges, and trade schools throughout the United States. Scholarship funds are for post-high school education in which the recipient must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and remain a full-time student.
Gail Miller and the Miller family provide additional educational opportunities to underserved students in need, including the Larry H. and Gail Miller Enrichment Scholarship at the University of Utah. This innovative program provides assistance and mentorship to students from diverse backgrounds to further their academic pursuits. Many of the recipients are the first in their families to attend college.
Additionally, the Larry H. Miller Youth Scholarship is presented each year in conjunction with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) at their annual gala event in Salt Lake City.
