The Larry H. Miller Group of Companies has a diverse workforce, and we honor and celebrate the cultures that make up our incredible team. This month, we’d like to honor our Native American employees and their families as we celebrate NativeAmerican Heritage Month.
Native Americans have inhabited North America for thousands of years. These individuals made significant contributions to the establishment and growth of the United States. In 1990, President George H.W. Bush approved a joint resolution to dedicate November as Native American Heritage Month.
Several institutions have joined together to pay tribute to the rich traditions and ancestry of the Native Americans. At nativeamericanheritagemonth.gov, you can learn more about their culture and contributions. Here are a few examples of what you can find:
- Picturing the American Buffalo: George Catlin and Modern Native American Artists (Virtual Exhibition)

Larry H. and Gail Miller Enrichment Scholarship Recipients
Each year, deserving students from diverse backgrounds receive the Larry H. and Gail Miller Enrichment Scholarship to further their academic pursuits at The University of Utah and help them make significant contributions to the community. Whenever possible, students are selected from applicants whose ethnic background is under-represented in higher education in Utah or those who are first-generation college students. Three recipients have shared what the scholarship means to them and their goals for the future:
Kami Teeasaytoh, Freshman
I am Navajo from Monument Valley, Arizona. I am going to college to increase my chances for a better future, not only for me but also for my family and community. I am interested in studying business to learn how to be successful as many businesses on the reservation fail. I hope to serve internships and learn how to help my community.
Alexsis James, Senior
I am Navajo\Zuni from Blanding, Utah, and I am proud of my heritage. I am interested in pursuing a degree in health education and promotion. I want to become an EMT and work with search and rescue to help my community. I have two younger brothers and hope that I can be a good mentor to them.
Brevin Norton, Senior
I am majoring in health promotion and education and emergency medical service. Upon graduation from the U of U, I plan to attend medical school. This scholarship has allowed me to focus on my studies. I hope one day to help another student achieve their goals as you have helped me. A’he’e’he’e’ (Thank you).
