Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Since 1978, May has been Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. We celebrate and recognize the immeasurable contributions and achievements of generations of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders who have enriched America’s history and culture.

According to the Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC), the theme for AAPI Heritage Month 2022 is “Advancing Leaders Through Collaboration.”

Collaboration improves communication, team dynamics and overall success. Yo-Yo Ma said, “When you learn something from people, or from a culture, you accept it as a gift, and it is your lifelong commitment to preserve it and build on it.”

One of our employees, Sione Tukuafu, has immediate family living in Tonga who were directly affected by devastating natural disasters in January 2022. The Larry H. Miller Company sponsored a donation drive organized by Sione. Employees at the Jordan Commons campus gathered non-perishable food items, bottled water and hygiene products.

“It meant a great deal to be surrounded by individuals who are supportive at work and in my personal life. Every act of love and kindness that I received from my coworkers was pure joy for my family and me, knowing they could rebuild and survive the unfortunate event that hit home. The Larry H. Miller Company’s mission to enrich lives and to go about doing good is universal, even to my tiny island Kingdom of Tonga. From my family and me, we thank you indeed,” said Sione.

The Larry H. Miller Company values and champions diversity, equity and inclusion. This month, we encourage you to learn about ways to get involved and build a better understanding. You can also support AAPI-owned businesses and restaurants in your area.
