This weekend, we will celebrate Juneteenth National Independence Day. June 19 commemorates the day that roughly 250,000 enslaved Americans in Texas were notified of their freedom in 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln.
You can learn more about the historical legacy of Juneteenth at The National Museum of African American History and Culture’s website.
The Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation remains committed to the Larry H. and Gail Miller Enrichment Scholarship at the University of Utah, which provides first-generation and traditionally underrepresented students access to a college education. More than 20 years ago, Larry H. Miller set in motion a partnership with the NAACP Salt Lake Branch to provide an annual scholarship. We also continue to support the NBA Foundation which will support, enhance and grow proven national and local education and employment models that prepare Black youth ages 14-24 for meaningful employment.
On this day, we hope you will take time to listen to the voices of those around you, connect with others, and learn from the experiences of members of the Black community. We appreciate and value your willingness to support one another and promote equity, inclusion and belonging throughout our organization.
